FUNDY MINOR FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION
NFL FLAG LEAGUES

PLAYSMART

  • All FMFA coaches are fully trained and certified in accordance with Football Canada’s guidelines, which results in smart practices and smart game play.
  • Accreditations include NCCP (National Coaching Certification Program), Safe Contact, as well as additional educational and coaching programs.
  • Education and awareness are key to FMFA coaches, volunteers, and families.

PLAYSAFE

  • Flag football is a great way to enjoy all the thrill and benefit of football without the physical contact of tackle football. Advancements in the game have been specifically geared towards players safety, ensuring a safe playing environment.
  • FMFA provides athletes with mouth guards and newly approved soft helmets to protect them at game time as well as at every practice.
  • The key difference in the game is that all players wear two flags, and when a defender detaches a flag from the ball carrier’s belt, the play stops.
  • Trained medical personnel are at every practice as well as game to help support players safety, and we abide by Football Canada’s strict concussion protocols in the event of any type of head contact.

PLAYFLAGFOOTBALL

  • FMFA prides itself on building community, teamwork, cooperation, and respect. We are committed to building community athletes and leaders.
  • Flag football is a safe, affordable sport, providing kids with a variety of skills & abilities to be a part of a team.
  • The health benefits gained from playing flag football range from cardiovascular endurance, agility, hand eye coordination and creating life long bonds with fellow teammates.
  • Football provides kids with life skills, character and a sense of belonging.

Fundy Minor Football Offers Flag Football in the Spring of each year.
In Spring 2025, we will host an exciting NFL Flag League and also flag football through our longstanding middle school flag championships.

East COast Games Flag football tournament is scheduled for June 20-22, 2025

Flag Football Equipment:

Flag football flags and belts. Players wear belts with flags that hang along their sides and opponents have to pull the flags off of the ball-carrier’s belt. Every player receives an official NFL FLAG football belt and flag football flags, either from their coach or league organizer.

NFL FLAG team jersey. Every player also receives a team jersey upon registration.  Wearing a shirt underneath jerseys is recommended, as the jerseys are reversible and players may need to flip jerseys inside-out to switch colours.

Shorts. It’s important to wear shorts that don’t have pockets. This allows the belt and flags to be visible at all times, avoiding unnecessary penalties. It also is a safety precaution so that fingers don’t get stuck when attempting to remove the flag.

Mouthguard. This is the only protective gear that players wear. We recommend having a backup pair in your bag, just in case.

Football cleats. Metal cleats are not allowed in flag football.

Football gloves (optional). Some players prefer to use football gloves, which give extra grip to help control the ball. These aren’t required, though.
